On 08-13 August in Staryi Sambir (Old Sambir) was held the International Volunteer Camp in which took part the volunteers from Ukraine, Israel, USA, Russia and Poland. Its aim was to examine and to save the Jewish heritage of Staryi Sambir, Dobromyl, Sambir, Turka.

On Tuesday, 08.08 the volunteers came to Staryi Sambir where they were kindly met by Urii Leus. After the familiarization excursion led by Iuliana Iarema we were divided into two groups. The first group did inside the synagogue where they started repairing the roof that was to do immediately. The second group began to clean and to describe the old Jewish cemetery.

We spent the next day, the Wednesday 09.08 doing at our objects in St.Sambir. After having had our dinner we came in expedition to Dobromyl where we met Liubomir Iazinich and Michaelo Kril. Also we held the ceremony at the Memory Wall staying on the place of former Jewish cemetery. After that we went to the village Skelivka known more to us by its old Polish name Felshtyn mentioned by Yaroslav Gashek in his book about Soldier Shweik. We found there the Jewish cemetery, almost destroyed with some lying tombstones. After ending the excursion we were back to Staryi Sambir and continued the work at our objects. When the jobs ended we watched and discussed the documentary about Jews of Sambir, Holocaust in the town and actual problems which concern the Jewish heritage.

On Thursday 10.08 we went to Sambir where we were hospitably welcomed by Boris Kaushanskiy the head of the Sambir Jewish community. We visited Jewish cemetery and synagogue in which nowadays the nightclub is situated. We also stopped at the place of Jewish mass graves in the forest near the village Ralivka. There were buried Jews from Sambir, Staryi Sambir, Turka regions. One volunteer group was cleaning the memorials from bushes, another group was gathering and taking out the garbage left by local inhabitants which often stop at the forest to make picnics. As a result, we reached to clean the paths to the memorials, but it is necessary to back to Radivka and keep on cleaning work.

On Friday 11.08 we spent the most part of our time doing the work at our objects in Staryi Sambir and did a lot of work. Tonight after getting ready we started the Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony. The guests from Lviv and Sambir joined us. The ceremony was held in the synagogue where we were repairing the roof. 75 years later inside the ancient walls Kiddush sounded again. At first the women lit the candles what brought blessings on the walls with Saturday. After that we singed holy niguns under the guidance our volunteer Danny Berchenko. After all we had shabbat dinner in cafe.

On Saturday, 12.08 we left for expedition to Turka where we visited the folk Boyko museum with Ruslana Iusipovich. After we went to the synagogue where the wood workshop is situated now. We stopped at the Jewish cemetery and the memorial of killed Jews of Turka. After that we went to the village Boryniv where we met the local historian who told us about the life of Jews. Besides that we got familiar with Boyko recipes of cheese-and bread-making with tasting. Then we went down to the village Rozluch from where we started to rise up to Dniester mouths. After getting back to our base we held the ceremony of Avdala.

On Sunday 13.08 we took stock of the work, discussed the further cooperation in doing with the materials we reached to obtain during the expedition.
